Dispatches to and from faith, culture, and things in between

At What Point

"Master, we toiled all night and took nothing. But at your word I will let down the nets."
{Peter, before he was an apostle, while he was called Simon, in a story told by Luke}

At what point.

1. At what point do faith and surrender align in such a transformatively spiritual way that the internal forces of personal intuition and of one's better judgment, the culturally learned reactions and responses, the acumen of our knowledge, skill and training are put to the sword -- for the sake of what might happen out in the deep?

2. At what point does a word from the Master transcend it all -- the forces, the culture, the acumen -- making them seemingly irrelevant to what's about to happen out in the deep?

3. At what point does a person surrender ("I will") what he can only know for sure by acting -- by shoving out into the deep, where, as it turns out, it's already happening?
