Kate, Jackson and Camden, after being baptized in Meadowbrook Creek in Charlottesville, Va.

On Sunday, May 7, 2017, Amie and I had the distinct privilege, incredible honor and sublime joy to witness the baptism of each of our three children: Camden (15), Kate (12) and Jackson (10). They were baptized by Winn Collier, our close friend and the pastor of All Souls Charlottesville.

That’s what baptism into the life of Jesus means. When we are lowered into the water, it is like the burial of Jesus; when we are raised up out of the water, it is like the resurrection of Jesus. Each of us is raised into a light-filled world by our Father so that we can see where we’re going in our new grace-sovereign country.
— St. Paul, as interpreted by Eugene Peterson

Quietness

Inside this new love, die.
Your way begins on the other side.
Become the sky.
Take an axe to the prison wall.
Escape.
Walk out like someone suddenly born into color.

Jalaluddin Rumi (1207-1273)
