Just James: Anger's BFF

Just James is a series of occasional, meditative, tweet-like renderings from the homily collection otherwise known as "The Letter of James," who was otherwise known as the brother of Jesus.

Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God.

"The Letter of James," Chapter 1, verses 19-20

Hasty speech and overheated anger can be the best of friends, it's true, especially when we do not race fast enough toward listening, tripping over ourselves in an effort to speak. Rather unfortunately, for people for whom so much depends on hearing the word of God, religious types are among the worst culprits in cultivating this friendship. Hasty speech and overheated anger. I suppose we've swallowed the pill: God's righteousness gives me just cause.
